The Average GPA of High School Students in Iran is 12

Abdolrasoul Emadi, the head of the Education Assessment Center, has announced that the average GPA of high school students in Iran is 12. On Tuesday, March 3, he stated in an interview with the news agency 'Mizan' that this average GPA pertains to the final exam scores across all theoretical, technical, and vocational subjects. According to him, 'The final exam questions were standardized, but 50% of students failed to answer some of the exam questions.' Emadi cited one reason for this failure as 'the poor understanding of lessons' by students. He added that the results of analyses in this regard have been provided to the Research and Educational Planning Organization for changes in the content of textbooks, especially newly compiled ones. In January of this year, Emadi also mentioned in an interview with the newspaper 'Shahrvand' that the main reason for the low GPA of students in Iran is 'the poor quality of the evaluation system in education.' He noted that 'in areas where continuous evaluation and exams throughout the year have been emphasized, there is a significant correlation between continuous and final exam scores, resulting in higher average scores.' Emadi also explained that 'in areas where evaluations have been unregulated, for example, where a teacher consistently gives a student a score of 20 throughout the year, we have seen that in the final exams, the score of this student was seven.' As he reported, 'Currently, the average scores of students in June 94 in the mathematics field across the country are 13.23, in experimental sciences 12.87, and in humanities 10.26.' Emadi further stated that 'in the mathematics field, the average score for girls in June 94 was 14.36, while for boys it was 12.61.' According to his statistics, 'in the experimental sciences, the average scores for girls are 13.71 and for boys 11.48, and in the humanities, the average scores for girls are 11.4 and for boys 8.52.'
