The British House of Commons Supports a Proposal for Establishing Freedom and Democracy in Iran

On Thursday, February 1st, the British House of Commons held a session to support a proposed plan for establishing freedom and democracy in Iran. The session, initiated by Bob Blackman, a member of the Conservative Party, condemned the actions of the Islamic Republic, including the suppression of protests. Participants expressed deep concern over the increasing use of 'terrorism, espionage, cyberattacks, and hostage diplomacy' by the Islamic Republic in efforts to eliminate the National Council of Resistance and particularly the members of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran from Camp Ashraf 3 in Albania. They urged European governments, especially Albania, to counter the illegal activities of the Islamic Republic and to support the rights of the members of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran in 'Camp Ashraf 3' in accordance with the 1951 Geneva Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, the European Convention on Human Rights, and international laws. The participants also expressed concern over threats from the Islamic Republic against Iranian dissidents in the UK and called on the British government to add the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to the list of terrorist organizations. They further urged the UK government to impose additional sanctions on the Islamic Republic in coordination with its international partners and hold the Iranian government accountable for its illegal actions both domestically and abroad. The necessity to counter the illegal actions of the Islamic Republic and to add the IRGC to the list of terrorist organizations has been a demand raised by many lawmakers from various European countries and Iranian expatriates in recent years.
