The Court of Two Journalists and Two Political Activists Will Be Held Privately

Media and relatives of some journalists and political prisoners have announced that the court of two journalists and two political activists will be held privately on Monday and Tuesday, June 8 and 9, despite numerous requests for a public trial. According to Mohammad Hossein Ajorlou, (husband of Niloufar Hamedi), the court for Elahe Mohammadi, a journalist active in women's issues at the 'Ham-Mihan' newspaper, will take place on Monday, and the court for Niloufar Hamedi, a journalist active in social issues at the 'Shargh' newspaper, will be on Tuesday in Branch 15 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Tehran. These two imprisoned journalists met with their chosen lawyers on Sunday afternoon, June 7, while it was reported that the court date was communicated to their lawyers 'by phone' just one day after the spokesperson of the judiciary announced the formation of their court. Niloufar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi were among the journalists who were arrested by the security agencies of the Islamic Republic for reporting on the death in custody of Mahsa Amini and her funeral at the beginning of the widespread protests in various cities of Iran. The Committee for Monitoring the Situation of Detained Journalists issued a statement on June 3, criticizing the practice of holding media trials and calling for the public trial of these two cases. According to the website 'Kalemeh,' close to Mir Hossein Mousavi, the court session for 74-year-old Keyvan Samimi, the editor-in-chief of the 'Nameh' magazine and a political activist who has been arrested and imprisoned multiple times, is also scheduled for Tuesday. According to this report, the court for Alireza Beheshti Shirazi, the director of the 'Rahnama' publishing house, a political activist and advisor to Mir Hossein Mousavi, will also be on Tuesday. Alireza Beheshti Shirazi and Keyvan Samimi, along with Ghorban Behzadian Nejad and Abdollah Momeni, who were summoned to the Islamic Revolutionary Court on Sunday, June 7, and informed of their charges, participated in the online conference 'Dialogue for the Salvation of Iran,' where they are accused of 'conspiracy and collusion against national security or providing means for its commission.' A group of political activists inside and outside Iran held a two-day 'virtual meeting' on the social network 'Clubhouse' on April 20, titled 'Dialogue for the Salvation of Iran.' In this virtual meeting, it was announced that out of 42 participants, 23 were from inside Iran (nine of whom are in prison) and 19 were from outside Iran. Following this, several speakers at this conference were summoned by government agencies, including Aliyeh Matlabi and Hashem Aghajeri. Meanwhile, relatives of Narges Mohammadi and Golrokh Iraei, two imprisoned political activists in Evin, have also stated that authorities have not yet allowed these two to meet with their families due to their article presented at the 'Dialogue for the Salvation of Iran' meeting.
