The Death Sentence of Abbas (Mujahid) Korkor Was Overturned by the Supreme Court

On Wednesday, December 21, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran reported that the death sentence of Abbas (Mujahid) Korkor, a prisoner held in Shiban Prison in Ahvaz, was overturned by the Supreme Court, and his case has been referred back for re-examination to a parallel branch. According to the news agency HRANA, citing 'an informed source close to the family' of this political prisoner, 'Mujahid Korkor's lawyers had previously separately filed requests for retrial and the application of Article 477. After these requests were accepted, the case was re-examined by the Supreme Court. Ultimately, his death sentence has been overturned.' Previously, Mr. Korkor had been sentenced to death by the first branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Ahvaz on charges such as 'Moharebeh' (waging war against God) and 'ifsad fil arz' (corruption on earth) in late Farvardin of last year. This sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court in Dey of last year, and his case was referred to the execution branch of the court in Izeh. The judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran claimed that he was involved in the murder of Kian Pirfalak, a 9-year-old child who was killed by direct gunfire from the Islamic Republic forces towards citizens on November 25, 1401 (November 16, 2022). This claim was made while Kian Pirfalak's family repeatedly denied it, and his mother stated: 'When we were returning home, the agents shot at our vehicle.' According to this report, the Islamic Revolutionary Court had accused Abbas (Mujahid) Korkor of charges such as 'disturbing public order and causing major bodily harm resulting in the death of seven people, including Kian Pirfalak, serious damage to public and private property, forming opposition groups and membership in them through armed uprising against the Islamic Republic of Iran.'
