The Decline in Windows Usage Continues

For several years, the use of Windows has been decreasing, with statistics showing a reduction of about 170 million users in the past year alone. Microsoft has lost a portion of its users each year in recent years. Many individuals who previously used computers have shifted towards tablets and mobile devices. As a result, the market share of operating systems like Android has increased while Windows' share has decreased. According to the latest report from Microsoft, Windows 10 has increased its market share to 48%, widening the gap with Windows 7. The latest report indicates that Windows 10 accounts for 48% and Windows 7 for 39% of Windows operating system usage. Currently, 1.3 billion people worldwide are using the Windows operating system, reflecting a decrease of 170 million compared to previous statistics from this software giant. The decline in active users of personal computer operating systems is not surprising given the trend towards mobile usage. Microsoft has long been working to transform Windows into a flexible and versatile operating system to fill this gap. Nevertheless, Microsoft is attempting to halt this decline by developing its software. According to Microsoft, Windows Server 2019 will be released in the second half of this year with new features and advancements in user security. Microsoft states that Windows Server 2019 will be released in the second half of this year, which will further enhance this operating system. Additionally, Windows Server 2019 will be equipped with the Windows Subsystem for Linux. However, the company is trying to impose the use of some of its software in new updates on users. Microsoft is testing a new change in the upcoming version of Windows 10, where clicking on a link in an email will open that link in the Microsoft Edge browser. Microsoft had previously implemented a similar process in Windows S. In Windows 10 S, Microsoft Edge is set as the default browser, and Microsoft restricts users from changing the default browser in this operating system. Microsoft has also imposed restrictions within the Edge browser. The default search engine in Edge and Internet Explorer browsers in Windows 10 S cannot be changed. Microsoft uses Bing as the default search engine for the Edge browser, and users cannot change the default search engine in this browser. Therefore, it is not possible to set Google as the default browser in this operating system. Microsoft has always tried to convince Windows 10 users to use Edge instead of Chrome. In this context, the company has made it difficult to change the default browser in Windows 10. Another tactic of the company to increase the use and popularity of Windows is the development of artificial intelligence in this operating system. Microsoft plans to soon add more AI capabilities to Windows 10. Microsoft has stated that Windows ML is a new AI system for developers, which will be made available to users alongside the next major update of Windows 10 in the spring of this year. This new Microsoft platform will allow all developers to use current and pre-trained machine learning patterns in developing their applications for Windows 10. Currently, Microsoft is utilizing AI in Office 365, the Windows 10 Photos app, and even the Windows Hello facial recognition system. Windows Hello allows users to identify themselves on Windows 10 computers and laptops through facial recognition. However, some experts believe that Windows is restricting users to using programs from other companies that compete with Microsoft products.
