Donald Trump states that his charity foundation will be dissolved to "prevent any potential conflicts of interest." In a statement released on December 25, Trump mentioned that "over the years, this foundation has done many charitable works by raising millions of dollars for various social groups, including support for veterans, police officers, and children." The elected President of the United States added, "In any case, to prevent any potential conflicts of interest with my role as President, I have decided to pursue my strong interests in humanitarian work through other means." At the same time, Trump has asked his legal team to begin the dissolution process of this foundation. According to the elected President, his foundation has fully and completely donated its funds to charity over the years. The New York Attorney General is currently conducting investigations into the "Donald J. Trump Charity Foundation." Fox News reports that these investigations concern its fundraising efforts. It remains unclear who will manage the organizations and foundations associated with Trump, as it seems that Ivanka, his daughter, and Jared Kushner, his son-in-law, will be involved in administrative and governmental affairs. Amy Spitalnick, a spokesperson for the New York Attorney General, stated on Twitter that investigations into this foundation will continue, and legally, its dissolution is not possible while these investigations are ongoing. The Wall Street Journal states that Trump's statement on Saturday represents a new effort by him and his family to end economic activities that experts believe may create a "conflict of interest" between them and Trump's role as President of the United States. According to the Wall Street Journal, Richard Painter, head of a group of lawyers during George W. Bush's administration who oversaw ethical principles, praised Trump's recent action, stating that this step is a move in the right direction. Painter noted that just as such action was necessary for Hillary Clinton had she won the election, Trump has rightly ended his foundation's activities. According to the Associated Press, a spokesperson for the Democratic Party of the United States claims this move is aimed at "hiding" the remaining activities and interests that may conflict with the presidency and also concealing the foundation's history. Trump, a New York billionaire, did not have significant political activity before entering the presidential election campaign and was engaged in his business affairs. The election on November 8 concluded with this Republican candidate's victory over Hillary Clinton. During the campaign, Donald Trump criticized the activities of Clinton's charity foundation on several occasions and called for investigations into it.
