The Female Attacker in California Had Pledged Allegiance to the 'Islamic State'

U.S. police say Tashfeen Malik, who attacked a welfare center in California on Wednesday with her husband, had pledged allegiance to ISIS in a Facebook post. Police officials stated on Friday that there is no evidence indicating a direct connection or orders from ISIS or the Islamic State for this woman. Syed Rizwan Farook, the health department's restaurant inspector in San Bernardino, and his wife Tashfeen Malik attacked a holiday party attended by Farook's colleagues. At least 14 people, including one of Iranian descent, were killed in the attack. According to reports, Rizwan Farook had attended the party but left the venue and then returned armed with his wife to open fire on the attendees. Police reported that the couple fired 75 rounds at the crowd. An American security official confirmed on Thursday that Rizwan Farook had been in contact with Islamic extremists through social media. Syed Rizwan Farook was the son of a Pakistani immigrant and was born in the U.S., while his wife had lived in Saudi Arabia for years before their marriage. The San Bernardino police chief stated that after the attackers were killed, at least 1,600 rounds of ammunition, three homemade bombs, and a remote control device were found in their rental vehicle. He added that 12 homemade bombs and three thousand rounds of ammunition were discovered at the home of Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife. Meanwhile, President Barack Obama, after a meeting with his national security advisors on Thursday, expressed confidence that the FBI and law enforcement would uncover the reasons behind this incident. He also urged citizens to wait for the facts before making any judgments about the event.
