The 'Gipsy Kings' Group is Coming to Iran

According to the head of the Music Office of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, if final agreements are made by the relevant authorities, the 'Gipsy Kings' group will perform a concert in Tehran in late May. It is reported that if certain organizations, such as the Public Places Administration, agree, the concert of the famous Spanish group 'Gipsy Kings' will be held from May 20 to 26 at the Ministry of Interior Hall. Previously, from October 23 to 26 of last year, Kitaro, a renowned Japanese composer and musician, performed in the same hall. After Kitaro's concert, while it was said that preparations were being made for 'Yanni' and his group to perform in Iran, it has now been announced that 'Gipsy Kings' will take the stage in Tehran. Pyruz Arjmand, the head of the Music Office of the Ministry of Culture, stated in an interview with Mehr News Agency regarding the performance of 'Gipsy Kings' in Tehran: 'This musical group has expressed its desire to hold a concert in Iran, and we have also completed the initial agreements. If we can obtain the remaining inquiries and receive final approvals from the relevant authorities, the final permit for the concert will be issued soon; if nothing unexpected happens, the concert will be held at the Ministry of Interior at the end of May.' On the other hand, the music website 'Music Ma,' a specialized music site in Iran, reported that the 'Gipsy Kings' concert will take place between May 20 and 26 at the Ministry of Interior Hall. Mr. Arjmand, in another interview with this site, stated that actions for issuing the permit for this group have been underway for five months. The head of the Music Office explained why these actions were conducted quietly: 'Our style is to prefer not to announce anything until it is certain, and if something is confirmed, we will announce it, although now you have learned about one of them.' Regarding the communication and invitation to this Spanish group, the head of the Music Office stated: 'Last year, several Iranian groups performed in Spain, and we had very good collaborations and communications with the Asian House in Spain; that is, if one or two groups come from Spain to Iran, several Iranian groups have performed in Spain.' The final part of Mr. Arjmand's interview was dedicated to the latest status of the 'Yanni' concert, which has been rumored for several months. He said: 'The organizing company is following up on this performance, and there are some legal matters and agreements between the company and Yanni that must first be resolved.' The head of the Music Office concluded by stating: 'Because the fees of international artists are considerable, the organizing company must consider all its financial calculations to justify the financial support and organization of the concert. Whenever they reach an agreement, we will take care of the rest.' The 'Gipsy Kings' music group is one of the most famous music groups in the world and has many fans in Iran. The members of this group are related to each other and claim to be unaware of academic music knowledge. The group's first album was released in 1982, and more than 15 albums have been published by them so far.
