The Green Continent; Dark Tales

The Green Continent is currently hosting dark tales; narratives of wandering and helplessness, bitter stories of separation, tales of small, dim hopes that often become disillusioned very quickly. The image that passes before our eyes these days of the largest collective displacement in recent decades is not one that will soon be erased from the minds of history and its spectators; the image of a small boy whose lifeless body has been washed ashore by the bitter sea, the image of 71 people who suffocated in a truck during a failed migration attempt, the image of the helpless being fed like animals in a pen; the image of tears, pains, and repeated deaths. The story and fate of today's war-torn Middle Eastern refugees wandering in Europe is more than just an event and deeper than "merely" a humanitarian disaster. The tale of these days intertwines with more profound concepts that starkly and directly define the reality of "human"; macro-concepts such as ethics and conscience, altruism and xenophobia, borders and land, race and geography... On one side, the image of a blonde, blue-eyed woman is recorded in history as she coldly kicks an elderly Arab man holding a child to the ground; on the other side, the image of hundreds and thousands of Westerners opening their arms to share their food, clothing, and homes with Eastern refugees.
