The Islamic Republic Executed Jamshid Sharmad

The judiciary of the Islamic Republic announced that Jamshid Sharmad, a dual-national political prisoner, has been executed. The Mizan news agency, the media outlet of the judiciary, reported on Tuesday, November 7, that Jamshid Sharmad, a political prisoner with dual Iranian-German citizenship, has been executed. Jamshid Sharmad, 68 years old, was kidnapped by the intelligence forces of the Islamic Republic in the UAE in the summer of 1399 (2020) and forcibly transferred to Iran. The Islamic Republic claimed that Mr. Sharmad was arrested in a 'complex operation.' Jamshid Sharmad, a dual Iranian-German citizen who also has permanent residency in the United States, was sentenced to death for 'corruption on earth' after a trial that the international community deemed 'fabricated.' Experts say that the Islamic Republic uses false accusations to detain foreign citizens, especially those with dual citizenship, to use them as political bargaining chips, effectively taking these citizens hostage. Mr. Sharmad's execution on Tuesday, November 7, coincided with the commemoration of Cyrus Day. Ghazaleh Sharmad, the daughter of this political prisoner, has repeatedly urged officials in Western countries, including American lawmakers, to work towards bringing her father and all other dual-national prisoners home. Amnesty International has reported that the Islamic Republic is responsible for 74% of recorded executions worldwide last year. The executed individuals include ethnic minorities, particularly Baluchis, women, and those who were minors at the time of their crimes.
