The Kouachi Brothers, Perpetrators of the Charlie Hebdo Attack, Killed

The Kouachi brothers, identified as the main perpetrators of the attack on the Charlie Hebdo magazine, were killed during a police raid on the Dammartin printing house on Friday evening. Cherif and Said Kouachi had fled after the attack on the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo in Paris, which resulted in the deaths of 12 people and injuries to 10 others, until media reported their hiding in the Dammartin printing house near Paris. The Kouachi brothers emerged from their hideout and exchanged gunfire with French anti-terrorism police, but ultimately both brothers were killed in the police operation. Reports also confirm the death of a police officer during this operation. Media reports indicated that the two brothers had taken a hostage, but it was later revealed that they were unaware of the presence of this individual, a 26-year-old man, who had been hiding in a corner of the printing house. The confrontation with the Kouachi brothers occurred while French anti-terrorism forces were also conducting an operation in eastern Paris to free citizens taken hostage in a Jewish supermarket. The hostage-taker, who was in contact with the Kouachi brothers, demanded that the French police release the two brothers who were surrounded by security forces, but he was ultimately killed along with at least three hostages during the police assault on the supermarket. The hostage-taker was identified as Amedy Coulibaly, whose identity was revealed by French police hours after the hostage situation began, along with a photo of him published in the media. French police stated that Coulibaly was the same individual who, a day earlier, shot two French police officers in southern Paris, killing one female officer and injuring another.
