The Lawsuit of Abolfazl Adinehzadeh's Family Closed; Investigator: They Should Seek Compensation

The lawyer for the family of Abolfazl Adinehzadeh, a teenager killed during the crackdown on protests in 2022 in Mashhad, announced that the lawsuit filed by his parents has been 'closed.' Khosrow Alikordi, the lawyer representing the Adinehzadeh family, shared a picture of the final ruling from the military prosecutor's office on the social media platform X on Tuesday, November 6, stating that 'the first investigative branch of the military prosecutor's office in Razavi Khorasan Province has declared the lawsuit of the parents of the late Abolfazl Adinehzadeh, one of the victims of last year's protests, as 'closed.' According to him and based on the issued ruling, the military prosecutor's office of Razavi Khorasan argued that 'no solid and convincing evidence has been obtained regarding the use of shotgun by military and law enforcement forces.' This is despite the fact that on October 8, 2022, nearly 70 shotgun pellets hit the right side of this teenager from less than a meter away at the entrance of Ferdowsi University in Mashhad, and although doctors had removed 27 of the pellets during surgery, he ultimately could not survive and died. The ruling, signed by 'Gholamhossein Alvandi, the investigator of the first branch of the military prosecutor's office' of the province, stated that the attributed charge is 'not established and proven due to the lack of sufficient evidential grounds,' and therefore, 'it is believed that prosecution should be prohibited.' Additionally, the ruling mentioned that 'the plaintiffs will be advised' to seek 'compensation from the public treasury and through the judiciary.' This comes as the father of the deceased teenager emphasized during protests following the death of Mahsa Amini in custody of the morality police across Iran that the family is not seeking revenge but justice.
