The Munich Shooter Planned This Attack 'A Year in Advance'

Authorities overseeing the Munich shooting case announced on Sunday that the shooter had been planning the attack for a year and randomly selected his victims. Robert Heimberger, the Bavarian inspector, stated in a press conference on Sunday, August 3, that the German-Iranian teenager visited a school where a shooting had previously occurred in 2009 and took photos of the scene. Heimberger referred to the shooter as David S., but German media clarified in the past two days that the shooter's full name is Ali Sanabli, known as David. The Bavarian inspector emphasized that the shooter had been planning the attack 'since last summer.' He added that several terabytes of information are available for police evaluation, but the shooter's family is not yet emotionally prepared to answer police questions. Earlier, German media reported that Ali (David) Sanabli's family has been in shock since learning of their son's role in the Munich shooting and has been unable to speak with the police. According to the Munich prosecutor, there is still no evidence that the shooter was acquainted with any of the victims or acted with political motives. The prosecutor also stated that the shooter had been undergoing treatment for 'fear of social interaction' over the past year, and medications were discovered at his residence, but investigators need to speak with his family to explore this aspect further. He also mentioned that the shooter regularly engaged in the video game 'Counter-Strike,' a single-player game where the user participates in shooting groups. Previously, German police officials reported finding 'significant amounts of books and articles about mass shootings' in the attacker's home, indicating a strong focus and interest in the topic of massacres. Ali Sanabli, an 18-year-old who was born to an Iranian immigrant family in Germany, shot and killed 9 people and injured 27 others, 10 of whom are reported to be in critical condition. He ended his own life shortly after the attack. Since Saturday, many Munich citizens have expressed their condolences to the victims by placing candles and flowers at the scene. Of the 9 individuals killed in the shooting, 7 were foreign teenagers aged between 13 and 19. Prior to this incident, there was no record of any criminal background for Ali Sanabli. In this context, seven of the deceased in the Munich shooting were teenagers and of foreign descent. The Iranian-German shooter 'has no connection to ISIS or the refugee issue.'
