The Musical Works of Friedrich Nietzsche on Spotify

A collection of musical works created by Friedrich Nietzsche, the German philosopher and writer, has been performed and published for free on Spotify. Although Nietzsche is primarily known for his philosophy and poetry, his greatest passion was music. He began composing music in 1854 at around the age of 10 and continued until 1887. 'Albany Records,' which has published Nietzsche's musical works, states on its website: 'Before Nietzsche began writing and creating poetry and philosophy, he started composing music, which he considered a remedy for the soul.' In a letter written three years before his death, Nietzsche noted: 'I do not think there has ever been a philosopher who has based himself on music as much as I have.' Nietzsche also admitted that 'perhaps he did not achieve much success in the profession of music,' yet he hoped that his musical works would accompany his philosophical outlook. Currently, several of Nietzsche's musical works have been performed and are available for free on a list on Spotify. These works have been performed by Canadian artists Loretta Altman, Wolfgang Buttenberg, and other musicians from Orpheus Montreal, covering a diverse range of styles. Some are romantic, some are elegiac, and some remind one of Protestant hymns he learned at home, where his family was part of the Lutheran church. A website called 'Nietzsche Channel' has compiled the collection of Nietzsche's musical works. Friedrich Nietzsche (1844 to 1900) produced significant philosophical works such as 'Thus Spoke Zarathustra,' 'The Twilight of the Idols,' and 'Ecce Homo.'
