The Organization for Iranian American Unity Welcomes the Return of 'Maximum Pressure'

In response to U.S. President Donald Trump's order on Tuesday to reinstate the 'maximum pressure campaign' against the Islamic Republic, the American organization 'United Against a Nuclear Iran' issued a statement. Senior officials of this organization, Jeb Bush and Mark Wallace, stated, 'We thank President Trump for signing this important presidential memorandum aimed at restoring the maximum pressure policy on the Iranian regime.' They said in a statement that the maximum pressure policy, which had severely complicated the sale of Iranian oil, 'was successful during his first term and will further weaken the capabilities of the Islamic Republic in the second term.' The organization's officials added that the Biden administration had been 'negligent' in enforcing sanctions, particularly regarding the main source of foreign currency income for the Iranian regime, namely oil exports, resulting in the Iranian government gaining billions of dollars that it used to fund its network of terrorist militias and 'strengthen its brutal repression machine against the people' of Iran. Jeb Bush and Mark Wallace said that now the Trump administration has an opportunity to reverse this trend. In Iran, the Fars News Agency, close to the Revolutionary Guards, attempted to downplay the significance of the U.S. President's order, suggesting that since, according to this news agency, Trump's order does not have the title of 'presidential decree' and is merely a 'memorandum,' it carries less weight. This news agency also highlighted on social media that Trump has said he is willing to talk to the Iranian President. A reporter during the signing of Trump's memorandum at the White House asked him if he was willing to talk to his 'counterpart' in Iran, to which Trump replied that he was willing to do so. Donald Trump had also expressed his willingness to make a deal during his first term when he ordered the killing of Qassem Soleimani, the then-commander of the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guards. He has stated that through maximum pressure, he aims to prevent the Islamic Republic from acquiring nuclear weapons. Trump: 'I hope we do not use the order against the Islamic Republic too much.' Reuters report on Iran's energy infrastructure following the start of the maximum pressure campaign. Trump issued the order to resume 'maximum pressure' on the Islamic Republic.
