The Outrage of Inflation in Iran; Red Meat Prices Near One Million Tomans

An economic website reported on the red meat market in Tehran, stating that the price of each kilogram of stewing meat ranges between 400,000 to 999,000 tomans, confirming that in some areas of Tehran, the price has reached the "border of one million tomans." According to Tejarat News, investigations show that the upward trend in red meat prices continues, and there seems to be no determination to address this issue. The report mentions the clearance of a 200-ton shipment of frozen meat after a year of delay, which will no longer impact the market and is intended for use in meat processing units. The report emphasizes that the price of meat in some butcher shops in northern and southern Tehran is up to twice the price in other stores, and this is not necessarily dependent on the geographical location of the shops. Field reports from this media outlet indicate that the price of each kilogram of sheep stewing meat is 999,000 tomans in a shop in the northern part of the city, around 800,000 tomans in one of the stores in southeastern Tehran, and over 400,000 tomans in some stores in the city center. Iranian domestic media on Wednesday, July 19, announced another increase in red meat prices, stating that the price of meat in Iran is several times higher than in the poorest countries in the world. According to this newspaper's report, Iranians currently have to pay several times more than the poorest countries, including Mongolia, Rwanda, and Tanzania, for meat, and based on the global meat price index, people in 113 countries have better access to meat than Iranians. The report also mentions protests by retirees in Sanandaj, criticizing the government's incompetence and the ongoing inflation that is devastating people's lives. The unprecedented rise in food prices over the past two years has led to a shrinking of people's tables.
