The Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival Goes to 'Anatomy of a Fall'

The closing ceremony of the 76th Cannes Film Festival was held on Saturday, May 27, 2023, with the announcement of winners in various categories at the Grand Lumiere Hall of the Cannes Festival Palace. The French thriller 'Anatomy of a Fall' directed by Justine Triet was chosen as the winner of the Palme d'Or. The jury, led by renowned Japanese actor Koji Yakusho, awarded the Best Actor prize to Yakusho for his performance in the film 'Perfect Days.' This award was presented to Yakusho by Iranian actress Zar Amir-Ebrahimi. Turkish actress Merve Dizdar won the Best Actress award for her role in the drama 'About Dry Grass.' The Jury Prize went to Japanese director Aki Kaurismäki for the film 'Fallen Leaves.' The Grand Prize of the 76th Cannes Film Festival was awarded to Jonathan Glazer for 'The Zone of Interest.' Tran Anh Hung also received the Best Director award for 'The Passion of Dodan Buffan.' This year, 21 films competed in the main competition, while notable works from prominent directors and actors such as Martin Scorsese, Cate Blanchett, Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Harrison Ford, Johnny Depp, and others were showcased in the non-competitive section. Additionally, Scorsese's new film 'Killers of the Flower Moon,' featuring stars like Robert De Niro and DiCaprio, was among the works that received significant acclaim from festival audiences and critics, despite not being in the competitive section.
