The Persian section of Voice of America has turned three years old. It is customary in commemorative notes to discuss one's virtues and shortcomings for the awareness of others who may know better. Positive points are emphasized, and shortcomings are apologized for. Good or bad, the internet has a unique nature; it is dynamic and evolving, and everyone in this field is somewhat of a novice. Sometimes we encounter individuals who speak with such certainty as if they have solved all technical and linguistic issues of the global web. Good for them; we do not know, and we thank any guidance that comes our way at least ten times. Three years is not a long time; the internet arrived relatively late at Voice of America, and it must strive hard not to be overshadowed by more powerful and contemporary media like radio and television. Some global news organizations have an army of graphic designers, programmers, and other internet specialists at their service. Our 'army' at the peak of the wave, if it reaches the number of ten fingers, we will perform a few rakats of gratitude. Another area we take pride in is the fight against censorship and internet filtering. We continuously work on various proxy technologies and breaking down barriers of oppression to enable access not only to the Voice of America site but to all other sites through us. We have responded to each of your emails unless they did not reach us or in areas where help was requested that was beyond our capacity. Some friends send us their complaints or requests directed at American politicians. Our hope and endeavor is to be your voice and your voice, not the spokesperson for any politician. Dear ones who rightly demand more detailed news from us about Iran should note that unlike European news agencies that have offices and reporters in Iran, the activities of Voice of America have been curtailed in Iran, and naturally, this cannot fail to affect the quality of our work. Some technical issues related to radio and television programs on our site are almost entirely out of our hands, but rest assured that we seriously follow up on your emails regarding these matters with the technical officials of the Voice of America radio and television section. In the coming days, fundamental changes will be made to the shape and layout of the site. Here, we can only thank all of you, all those who sent letters of support, and all those who criticized. Your attention and interest have made it possible for us to continue our work so far. We sincerely believe that the smallest service to Iranians and free Persian speakers is the greatest honor and reward.
