The Structure of Social Damages in Iran in Three Charts

Social damages in Iran have become so widespread and visible that the government can no longer prevent their discussion or conceal them with terms like black propaganda or enemy conspiracy. In recent years, former and current officials of the Islamic Republic, experts, and civil activists have presented various statistics regarding these damages, but their common denominator depicts a very concerning situation. The state of social damages has become so critical that the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic (who has always ignored these issues) has requested reports from executive bodies and held meetings with managers regarding these damages. In the charts below, I have utilized the common denominator of these statistics and presented the range where the statistics have differed. The reason for using charts is to facilitate readers in gaining a clear picture of these damages by answering four key questions about them (roots, forms, role of the government, and consequences). Issues like smoking or prostitution are not social damages in a limited sense, but when they are charted on a scale of millions or tens of millions, they fall into the category of damages because they have widespread health, economic, and social repercussions. Divorce is also not a social damage if women and children have the necessary support systems, which they do not. The presented figures clearly show that the trends related to these damages are extremely concerning.
