Hasti Hosseinpanahi is a girl from Dehgolan, Kurdistan, who was only 16 years old during the nationwide protests of 2022. On November 10, 2022, during the crackdown on protests by the Islamic Republic's forces, she fell into a coma and woke up five months later having lost her ability to speak and move. Some reports at the time indicated that 'the agents beat Hasti and several other students with batons,' and while trying to escape, Hasti realized 'the security forces were chasing her school bus' and thus 'threw herself out of the moving vehicle,' which led to her coma. This protesting student against the Islamic Republic, after months of enduring pressure and threats, was forced to leave Iran with her family a year ago and went to Germany for continued treatment. A research report from the Open Data Iran database revealed that during the nationwide protests of 2022 in Iran, at least 537 protesters were killed, of which '48 were women and 68 were children under 18 years old.' Amnesty International, in September 2023, on the eve of the anniversary of the killing of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini, issued a statement condemning the impunity of Iranian government officials involved in the 'brutal suppression' of protests, emphasizing the necessity for the global community to confront these actions.
