The Thirtieth Democratic Senator in the U.S. Supports the Nuclear Agreement with Iran

According to Reuters, Senator Tom Carper from Delaware stated, "This is a good agreement for America and its allies, including Israel, and it prevents the possible alternative of a potential war with Iran." According to the Associated Press, Democrats in the U.S. Senate need 41 votes to prevent the rejection of this agreement in the Senate. In other words, if the supportive votes reach 41, Barack Obama will no longer need to use his veto power to pass this agreement. The report indicates that if the nuclear agreement is rejected in the Senate and the House of Representatives, and this action is vetoed by Barack Obama, then the President will need the support of 34 senators for his veto to remain in place. Reports indicate that the House of Representatives and the Senate have until September 26 (17 September) to reject or approve the nuclear agreement between Iran and six world powers. Republicans, who hold the majority in the Senate and the House of Representatives, are strongly opposed to the nuclear agreement with Iran and have announced that they will reject it. Meanwhile, Barack Obama has warned that he will veto Congress's opposition to the agreement. In the latest reaction from Obama administration officials to Republican opposition, Samantha Power, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, warned on Thursday that if Congress rejects the nuclear agreement with Iran, the United States will be "isolated in the world and its influence will diminish." Ms. Power warned that a negative vote from Congress on this agreement would make it difficult for the U.S. government to garner support for sanctions against Iran. Another report indicates that Barack Obama is scheduled to speak on Friday in a "video conference" with the Jewish community in America regarding the nuclear agreement with Iran. According to Reuters, in this video conference, the President will also answer viewers' questions. According to the report, two major Jewish organizations have planned this video conference. These two organizations have previously held video conferences with Ernest Moniz, the U.S. Secretary of Energy, and Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, regarding the nuclear agreement with Iran. Israel opposes the nuclear agreement with Iran, stating that this agreement grants Iran many concessions and effectively paves the way for the country to acquire nuclear weapons.
