The U.S. and Canada Designate 'Samidoun' as a Terrorist Organization

On Tuesday, October 16, the U.S. Treasury Department and the Canadian government announced that they have jointly designated the group 'Samidoun' as a terrorist organization. The United States and Canada stated that this action reflects the shared commitment of both countries to combat the financing of terrorist groups such as the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Hamas, and other terrorist organizations. With the imposition of these sanctions, all assets and interests belonging to the Samidoun group in the U.S. and Canada will be blocked, and citizens of these countries are prohibited from any financial dealings with this group. Members of the 'Palestinian Prisoners' Solidarity Network' known as 'Samidoun', who claim to support Palestinians, burned the Canadian flag and chanted 'Death to Canada' during a rally on October 7 in Vancouver, Canada, in support of Hamas's terrorist attack on Israel. According to information available on the Samidoun group's website, this group has branches and presence in major cities in Canada, the U.S., and even Iran, and has been active in organizing 'extremist anti-Israel events' across Europe. Previously, the Netherlands and Germany had banned the activities of this group. Samidoun presents itself as the 'Palestinian Prisoners' Solidarity Network' and operates against Israel. The U.S. has warned Israel not to increase aid to Gaza, as military assistance could be jeopardized. Israeli tanks have moved towards the northern Gaza Strip; clashes between Hamas and the Israeli army continue. The U.S. Vice President has called for 'immediate action' from Israel to facilitate aid to Gaza. Reuters reports that the 'Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' has banned the use of communication devices. An American representative criticized Israel for potentially obstructing UNRWA activities and the human rights situation in Gaza.
