The U.S. and Israel Discuss Threats from Hezbollah and Iran's Destabilizing Actions

Ronald Moultrie, the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security, recently visited Israel. During this four-day trip, Moultrie and his delegation met with Dror Shalom, the Political-Military Director of the Ministry of Defense, and other senior defense officials in Israel to discuss "the threat of Hezbollah in Lebanon and efforts to counter the destabilizing activities of the Islamic Republic in the Middle East." According to the U.S. Department of Defense website, strengthening bilateral intelligence and defense cooperation for greater regional security was another focus of these discussions. The U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense reiterated the joint commitment of both countries to counter all destabilizing actions that threaten regional security and the shared interests of Washington and Jerusalem, stating that the two nations would work to enhance their defense and intelligence partnership. Recently, alongside the deployment of U.S. F-35 strategic fighters to the Middle East, General Michael Eric Kurilla, the commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), visited Israel and met with Yoav Gallant, the Minister of Defense, and other military leaders in Israel. The policies of the Islamic Republic, particularly in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman in recent months, have prompted the United States to strengthen its presence in the region by sending destroyers and bombers. The U.S. Navy reports that the Islamic Republic has seized several commercial vessels and harassed others in the past two years, mostly in the Strait of Hormuz.
