The U.S. Calls for Iran's Full Cooperation with the Agency to Implement the 'Roadmap'

The U.S. representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) urged Iran to fully and promptly cooperate with the agency to implement the 'roadmap' and emphasized Washington's commitment to providing financial resources for verifying the Vienna agreement. Henry Ensher, the U.S. representative at the agency, stated in remarks made on Tuesday, September 3, during the IAEA Board of Governors meeting, that under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran must complete the necessary actions outlined in the 'roadmap' by October 15. He stressed, 'It is vital that Iran adheres to its commitments under the JCPOA to begin its implementation.' The 'roadmap' referred to by the U.S. ambassador relates to an agreement signed on July 23 by Ali Akbar Salehi, head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, and Yukiya Amano, the IAEA Director General, under which Iran agreed to provide the necessary information to the agency for verifying outstanding issues related to its nuclear program. The Islamic Republic of Iran must complete the submitted information by October 15, and the Director General of the agency will report on December 15 whether Iran has answered all questions. If Yukiya Amano provides a positive report, the implementation process of the JCPOA and the lifting of sanctions against Tehran will begin. Iran is accused of conducting military-nuclear tests, particularly at the Parchin military base, under the guise of its nuclear activities, which it claims are peaceful. The agency hopes to close the file on Iran's past and present outstanding issues by receiving information from Iranian officials. In his remarks on Tuesday, the U.S. representative expressed confidence that the agency would implement the JCPOA with professional, technical, excellent, and fair characteristics. Henry Ensher also emphasized the U.S. commitment to cooperating with other member countries of the Board of Governors in providing the necessary financial resources for the agency to implement the JCPOA. He stated, 'The United States believes that agency members must provide sufficient resources to ensure that the agency can carry out its important tasks in disarmament, security, and technical cooperation.' Prior to the U.S. representative's remarks, Yukiya Amano reported to the Board of Governors that implementing the JCPOA regarding Iran's nuclear program requires an annual budget of 9.2 million euros, which must be sourced from additional resources. He added, 'Three million euros of this amount will be allocated to the temporary implementation of the Additional Protocol, and the verification and monitoring of Iran's commitments under the JCPOA, including inspection-related costs, will also require 6.2 million euros.'
