The U.S. Condemns North Korea's Launch of a 'Satellite Launch Vehicle'

The spokesperson for the White House National Security Council condemned North Korea's launch of a satellite launch vehicle using ballistic missile technology, stating that this action is a 'brazen' violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions that will destabilize the security situation in the region and beyond. Adam Hodge emphasized that the U.S. President and his national security team are closely coordinating with U.S. allies to assess the situation and are urging Pyongyang to immediately cease its provocative actions and choose engagement instead. The White House National Security Council spokesperson stressed that the United States will take all necessary measures to ensure the security of the U.S. and defend South Korea and Japan. Previously, nuclear-armed North Korea had claimed to have completed its first spy satellite, and following confirmation from Kim Jong Un, the North Korean leader, the launch of this satellite was scheduled to occur between May 31 and June 10. However, in another report, North Korea's state news agency announced the failure of the spy satellite launch, stating that it fell into the Yellow Sea west of the Korean Peninsula. According to this report, the Chollima-1 satellite lost its propulsion during the second stage of the launch due to an abnormal engine ignition and subsequently fell. The unsuccessful launch of the North Korean satellite launch vehicle triggered 'city evacuation' sirens in South Korea and Japan, prompting warnings from both countries to North Korea regarding the spy satellite launch.
