The U.S. is 'seriously' examining Iran's new missile test

Samantha Power, the U.S. representative to the United Nations, stated that the United States will 'seriously' examine reports of a new ballistic missile test by Iran. According to Reuters, Power said on Tuesday, December 8, after a UN Security Council meeting, that if it is proven to Washington that Iran conducted a short-range ballistic missile test, the U.S. will bring this issue to the Security Council as a 'violation of Security Council resolutions.' In Paris, a spokesperson for the French Foreign Ministry stated that France will closely monitor Iran's compliance with the ban on ballistic missile tests. Previously, several U.S. officials had claimed that Iran tested a medium-range ballistic missile last month. These officials added that the new missile test is a violation of UN Security Council resolutions. The Islamic Republic of Iran announced on October 11 that it successfully tested a new generation of ground-to-ground missiles named 'Emad,' stating that 'this missile is capable of striking designated targets with high precision and completely destroying them.' U.S. officials have claimed that the Emad missile has the capability to carry a nuclear warhead, a claim that Iran has denied. Fox News has also reported that the Qadr 110 missile has similar capabilities. Following the Emad missile test, the U.S., UK, France, and Germany called for action from the committee reviewing sanctions on Iran regarding this test.
