The U.S. Says Ukraine's Plan to Force Russia to End the War is 'Viable'

Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, announced that Antony Blinken, the country's Secretary of State, was briefed on the details of Ukraine's plan to compel Russia to end the war during his visit to Kyiv last week. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky first spoke about the 'Victory Plan' last month and stated that he intends to discuss it with Joe Biden, the President of the United States. Zelensky is expected to present this plan to Biden next week on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. On Tuesday, September 17, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, said that Washington has reviewed the plan. She stated, 'We believe it contains a strategy and a viable plan.' Matthew Miller also said in his Tuesday press conference that Blinken shares a similar view with Linda Thomas-Greenfield. However, he refrained from providing further details. Mr. Miller stated, 'I think we should let President Zelensky speak about the details of this plan himself.' Zelensky had also mentioned last month that he would discuss this plan with Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, candidates from the Democratic and Republican parties in the U.S. presidential election. This plan has been presented in a very sensitive context of the war, as Russia continues to advance hard in eastern Ukraine, while the Ukrainian army has also captured parts of the Kursk region in Russia during a surprise attack.
