The 'United Against a Nuclear Iran' Welcomes Increased U.S. Military Presence in the Persian Gulf

The organization 'United Against a Nuclear Iran' welcomed the Biden administration's decision to further strengthen the U.S. military presence and deploy the aircraft carrier 'USS Bataan' to the Persian Gulf to counter threats from Iran. 'United Against a Nuclear Iran', a non-partisan and non-profit organization in the U.S., praised the deployment of the 'USS Bataan' by the Biden administration in the Persian Gulf. In light of Iran's increasing hostility towards U.S. maritime interests in the Gulf, the organization called for enhanced deterrence against such threats. The 'Bataan' readiness group will join the destroyer 'USS Thomas Hudner' and additional F-16 and F-35 fighter jets that were deployed on July 7. Mark Wallace, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and CEO of the organization, stated, 'We commend the Biden administration and the U.S. Department of Defense for deploying the Bataan amphibious readiness group in the region under the responsibility of the U.S. Central Command in response to the threats and military actions of the Iranian regime against the U.S. and its commercial interests in the region. The deployment of this readiness group, alongside the destroyers and advanced aircraft that the U.S. has sent to the Middle East, represents an important step in strengthening U.S. deterrence against Iran's increasing hostile activities.' He also mentioned that to ensure deterrence, the U.S. must issue clear and decisive rules to counter Iran's military aggression and adhere to them. Wallace described the deployment of the 'Bataan' readiness group as a warning that Iran should not be allowed to attack any ships in the Gulf without a decisive military response from the U.S., board them, or cause disturbances. The CEO of 'United Against a Nuclear Iran' added that in the absence of a decisive response to Iran's increasing threats, the imposition of sanctions against Iran would be disrupted and could lead to further bloodshed and potential escalation of tensions. The Pentagon, in a statement on July 20 announcing the deployment of the 'USS Bataan', said, 'The United States demonstrates its commitment to ensuring freedom of navigation and deterring Iran's destabilizing activities in the region. We will continue to work with our allies and like-minded partners who are committed to the free flow of trade.'
