The United States Warns the Islamic Republic Against Any Attack on American Forces in the Region

On Tuesday, the United States warned the Iranian government not to retaliate following a recent deadly attack on the Islamic Republic's diplomatic mission in Syria. The Iranian consulate in Damascus was targeted on Monday, resulting in the deaths of several Iranian 'military advisors,' according to the Islamic Republic. Tehran has blamed Israel for the attack, but Israel has not responded. Israeli officials typically do not comment on their attacks against the Islamic Republic. In previous instances, the Islamic Republic has targeted U.S. bases or interests in the region, claiming that Washington is the main supporter of Israel and its attacks. Zahra Ershadi, the deputy representative of the Islamic Republic at the United Nations, claimed in a Security Council speech that the U.S. is responsible for all actions taken by Israel in the region. She stated that Tehran reserves the right to a 'decisive response' to the attack on its consulate in Damascus. In response, the U.S. mission reiterated, 'We do not repeat our previous warnings to Iran and its proxies not to exploit the situation to resume attacks on U.S. personnel.' Robert Wood, the U.S. Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, emphasized during the Security Council meeting on Tuesday night that Washington had no involvement or prior knowledge of the attack on Monday. The U.S. Department of Defense also stressed on Tuesday that America played no role in the Israeli attack in Damascus and was unaware of Israel's decision to target Iranian interests. The White House, in response to the Iranian Foreign Minister's claim that the U.S. is responsible for the attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, called the statement absurd. Following the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, attacks on U.S. interests increased, culminating in the deaths of three American soldiers in a drone attack on a base in Jordan on January 27. The White House condemned that attack as 'appalling,' and the U.S. military targeted the positions of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its affiliated groups in Syria and Iraq dozens of times. Meanwhile, the U.S. military and its allies began attacks against Houthi forces supported by the Islamic Republic in Yemen, which have threatened maritime security in the Red Sea. Since then, the frequency of attacks on U.S. forces and interests in Iraq and Syria has decreased. Most Arab countries condemned the attack on the Islamic Republic's consulate in Syria. The White House stated to Voice of America: 'We had no knowledge of or involvement in the attack on the Islamic Republic's consulate.' The Pentagon confirmed that the U.S. played no role in the Israeli attack on Iranian interests in Damascus. The U.S. stated that the Iranian Foreign Minister's claims of 'U.S. involvement' in the attack on the Iranian consulate building are 'absurd.' Reactions to the attack on the Islamic Republic's consulate included a user commenting: 'The government hits in parks in Iran and gets hit in the streets of Damascus.' Following the deadly attack on the Islamic Republic's consulate, Guterres stated: 'All parties' must respect international law. The European Union called for 'restraint.' The Security Council will convene at Russia's request; the Islamic Republic claims it has made 'appropriate decisions' to respond to the attack.
