The US and Israel Discuss Countering Iran's 'Threats'

Senior officials from the United States and Israel met at the White House to discuss how to counter the threats posed by the Iranian government in the region and against Israel. According to a White House statement, developments related to Iran's nuclear program and coordination efforts to ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons were among the topics discussed at the 'US-Israel Strategic Advisory Group' meeting. Recently, a coalition of think tanks and active groups in the United States warned that the Islamic Republic's nuclear program has reached a critical stage and that Iran could produce enough enriched uranium to build several nuclear weapons within days. The meeting, held on Monday, July 16, was hosted by Jake Sullivan, the US National Security Advisor, and Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, along with Tzachi Hanegbi, Israel's National Security Advisor, Ron Dermer, Israel's Minister of Strategic Affairs, and another senior Israeli official. Senior representatives from intelligence, defense, and foreign policy agencies also participated in this gathering. Jake Sullivan emphasized President Joe Biden's firm commitment to ensuring Israel's security against ongoing and reckless attacks by Hezbollah against Israel. The US National Security Advisor also stressed Israel's right to defend itself against these attacks and America's support for a diplomatic resolution regarding the safe return of Israeli and Lebanese families to their homes. Developments in Gaza and progress on negotiations for a ceasefire to free Israeli hostages were also discussed in this meeting. Israeli officials present at the session emphasized that Israel supports President Joe Biden's proposal, which has the backing of the UN Security Council, the G7 countries, and other nations worldwide. The expansion of Houthi attacks on ships has increased tensions between the US military and the Houthis in Yemen. Herzog stated that the Islamic Republic's 'Empire of Evil' seeks to undermine global stability. Netanyahu expressed uncertainty about the death of Mohammed Deif, stating that this attack sent a deterrent message to the Iranian government. Think tanks in the US warned that the Islamic Republic is on the brink of acquiring nuclear weapons and that immediate action is required.
