Third Mahsa Jina Amini Scholarship at Radio Free Europe

Scholarship period: January 1, 2025, to March 31, 2025. Application deadline: November 1, 2024. Results announcement: December 1, 2024. Radio Free Europe is offering the third 'Mahsa Jina Amini Scholarship' in memory of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish Iranian whose death in September 2022 in the custody of the Islamic Republic's morality police sparked widespread protests across the country. The Mahsa Amini Scholarship aims to honor Mahsa's life and support young women's freedom of expression, helping them continue their activities in support of women's rights and freedoms. This program is intended annually for three young Iranian women with a proven background in defending freedom of expression, empowering women, and promoting gender equality in society through journalism, art, literature, and poetry. If you were not accepted in the previous two rounds, you can still apply for the new Mahsa Scholarship period. Program details: This program will be conducted remotely for three months. The selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend of $1,000 and will work closely with Radio Free Europe editors to produce content about women's rights in Iran. The awarding of this scholarship will be based on competitive criteria, and the selection of candidates will be made by a panel of Radio Free Europe journalists. Applicants must meet the following criteria: 1. Be a woman, residing outside of Iran, and aged between 18 and 25. 2. Be aligned with the mission and goals of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. 3. Have full proficiency in Persian. 4. Have a working knowledge of English sufficient for professional communication. How to apply: Applicants must submit the following documents: 1. The scholarship application must be submitted in English, but work samples can be in Persian. Please attach samples and submit them via this online application portal. Contact information must include all of the following: name, email address, social media profile address, phone number, current residential address, and permanent address, a detailed work history since completing formal education, and educational background. If you have received any notable awards or achievements, or are currently a member of professional, political, or other groups, or have recently been a member, please list them. Also, if you have obtained any English language proficiency certification, please specify the type and level. In your motivation letter, please state your reasons for applying for this scholarship. Also, include your journalism interests, values, or experiences that qualify you for this program, and share your professional goals after completing the scholarship. Please submit two samples of your best previous work, in any format and platform it was published, and in its original language, as attachments. The original publication date of the samples must not exceed 12 months prior to the scholarship application deadline. The dates of all samples must be specified.
