Three Children Killed in Knife Attack in Northern Britain

British police say that in a knife attack by an armed assailant in Southport, located in the northwest of the country, three children were killed and 11 others were injured. Other police officials have stated that this attack is not considered 'terroristic' and that the assailant had no accomplices. Eyewitnesses told news agencies that they saw a large number of children fleeing the social and cultural center with injured and bloodied bodies. Liverpool police reported that they received news of the attack in Southport around 11:50 AM on Monday. The coastal town of Southport, with a population of about 100,000, is located near the port of Liverpool. The regional emergency center stated that eight people received temporary treatment for knife injuries at the scene before being transferred to the hospital. A shop owner near the incident site said he saw seven to ten children with injured and bloodied bodies fleeing from the cultural center. He told the Associated Press, 'There were visible knife wounds on various parts of their bodies, on their necks, chests, and backs. They were all around 10 years old, and one child's injuries were very severe.' Another local resident said that the bodies of children being transported by emergency workers to ambulances were covered in blood. He told news agencies, 'Our town is known for sunny Southport. It is a calm seaside town where such incidents have never happened before. Knife attacks usually occur in larger cities like London and Manchester, and that is why we are all shocked.'
