Three-Day World Economic Forum in Amman - 2003-06-21

Today, a large number of political, business, and social leaders from around the world have gathered in Amman, the capital of Jordan, to participate in the three-day World Economic Forum held annually. More than a thousand representatives from across the globe will attend this conference, which is being held under strict security measures. The conference, taking place at a resort by the Dead Sea, will discuss important topics such as Middle East peace, the war on terrorism, and the reconstruction of Iraq post-war. Among the participants is Colin Powell, the U.S. Secretary of State, who will engage in discussions on advancing peace between Israel and the Palestinians. It was also announced today that Hamid Karzai, the head of the interim government of Afghanistan, is among the notable figures attending this conference. Mr. Karzai, accompanied by Abdullah Abdullah, the Foreign Minister, and several other cabinet members, departed for Amman today. An announcement released in Kabul indicated that Mr. Karzai's speech at the opening session of the conference will focus on the situation in Afghanistan and regional issues.
