Three European Countries Demand Complete UN Report on Iran's Missile Activities

Britain, France, and Germany have accused Iran of violating a United Nations Security Council resolution by developing missile technology and have requested a comprehensive report from the UN on this matter. In a letter to Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, these three European countries emphasized that Iran's actions in launching a satellite carrier and unveiling two ballistic missiles indicate an increase in Iran's activities that contradict the Security Council resolution. Resolution 2231 of the UN Security Council, which was issued following the global powers' nuclear agreement with Iran, calls on the Islamic Republic to refrain from any activity related to ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads. However, Tehran claims that its missile program is defensive and has no intention of producing nuclear warheads. According to a report by AFP, the three European countries have asked Guterres to provide detailed information on Iran's missile program in his next report, which is expected to be published in June. This letter from the three countries, which are also signatories to the nuclear agreement with Iran, comes a month after the United States made a similar request to the Security Council, stating that it is now time to impose stricter international restrictions on Tehran. Donald Trump, the President of the United States, withdrew Washington from the nuclear agreement last year to resume sanctions against Iran. Mike Pompeo, the U.S. Secretary of State, also called for increased pressure on Iran to halt its missile program during a UN Security Council meeting last winter, but Russia rejected this claim, stating that there is no evidence that Iran's missiles are capable of carrying nuclear weapons. In their letter, the three European countries stated that Iran used two other missiles and similar technology in the design of the 'Safir' satellite carrier to produce long-range and intercontinental ballistic missiles. In mid-February, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps unveiled the Dezful ground-to-ground missile and the Khorramshahr ballistic missile.
