Three Killed in Stabbing Attack in Germany; Police Searching for Attacker

Olaf Scholz, the Chancellor of Germany, emphasized in a post on the social media platform "X" that "the criminal must be quickly apprehended and face the harshest legal punishment." Additionally, Nancy Faeser, the German Interior Minister, stated that security forces are fully engaged in finding the attacker and investigating the background of this assault. The attack occurred during a festival celebrating the 650th anniversary of the founding of the city of Solingen, located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia near the German-Dutch border, and the festival was abruptly canceled. The police have prohibited traffic from the scene of the incident, and passersby have placed candles and flowers around the area to honor the victims. The mayor of Solingen told reporters on Saturday morning that the residents of the city are shocked and saddened. A spokesperson for the German police stated that the attacker specifically targeted the victims' necks. Knife attacks and deadly shootings are not new phenomena in Germany, and the government is seeking to tighten laws regarding knife possession by reducing the maximum length of knives permitted for carrying.
