Three Labor Activists Released from Evin Prison Following Case Closure

Reza Shahabi, Hassan Saidi, members of the Tehran Bus Workers' Syndicate, and Keyvan Mohtadi, a translator, writer, and labor activist, have been released from Evin Prison. Hossein Taj, the lawyer for these three civil activists, stated on Sunday, September 2, that after submitting a request for the 'implementation of the 2021 amnesty directive' by the lawyers, the prosecutor's office approved this request, leading to the release of Shahabi, Mohtadi, and Saidi, and their 'case was closed.' Earlier this year, in Khordad, the lawyer announced a reduction of their prison sentences from six years to three years and seven months in the appeals court. Taj also mentioned the situation of Anisha Asadollahi, another imprisoned labor activist and the wife of Keyvan Mohtadi, stating to Ensaf News that they will submit a request for retrial to the court next week and hope it will be accepted. These three individuals have been in Evin Prison since 2022. Reza Shahabi was arrested at his home on April 11, 2022, and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison. Keyvan Mohtadi was arrested on May 9, 2022, along with his wife Anisha Asadollahi by security forces at their home. Hassan Saidi was also arrested in May of the same year. According to the Tehran Bus Workers' Syndicate, these three have been in prison without a single day of leave since 2022. The syndicate issued a statement on Sunday congratulating the release of these three civil activists and calling for the immediate release of other imprisoned syndicate members, Ebrahim Madadi and Davood Razavi, as well as other labor and civil activists and imprisoned teachers.
