Three Political Prisoners: The Lives of Afshin Bayamani and Saman Yasin in Qazalhasar Are in Serious Danger

Ahmadreza Haeri, Hamzeh Savari, and Saeed Masouri state that the lives of Afshin Bayamani and Saman Saidi (Yasin), their fellow inmates in Qazalhasar prison, are facing 'serious danger.' These three political prisoners wrote in an open letter from Qazalhasar prison on Saturday, September 10, that Ali Salehi, the Tehran prosecutor, and his deputy have created the conditions for 'systematic murder and white killing' of Mr. Bayamani and Mr. Yasin by depriving them of medical services. The open letter states that this action is akin to the 'murder and killings' occurring with 'dozens of prisoners in other prisons,' including in Shiban prison in Ahvaz, the women's ward, and ward four of Evin prison. The authors of this letter also pointed out the 'illegal' detention of these two prisoners who are grappling with significant physical issues, holding the judiciary and the prison organization responsible for any incident and the jeopardy to the health of Saman Yasin and Afshin Bayamani. According to this letter, Afshin Bayamani, after serving 25 years in prison, is 'suffering from heart failure,' and several doctors have called for 'immediate treatment' and 'heart surgery outside of prison' for him. A report from the Iran Human Rights Campaign indicated the 'deliberate' deprivation of political prisoners from medical facilities. Additionally, forensic medicine emphasized last autumn the 'urgency of surgery and hospitalization' for Mr. Bayamani. However, besides the Tehran prosecutor and his deputy, 'Mr. Niri,' the supervising prosecutor of the prison, has prevented the immediate transfer of this political prisoner for medical leave. These political prisoners also noted that Saman Saidi (Yasin), a protesting singer, has been hospitalized twice at Razi Psychiatric Hospital, stating that despite the forensic medical commission's opinion regarding the 'worsening of his conditions in prison,' Mr. Yasin remains in an uncertain situation in prison. These three political prisoners emphasized that the situation of this artist in Qazalhasar prison 'is such that every day and every hour, there is a fear that his life is at risk.' Ramin Safarnia, Saman Yasin's lawyer, wrote on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on May 14 that although this political prisoner is 'subject to non-imprisonment,' Mr. Saidi's medical file has not yet been referred to forensic medicine, and his release has been prevented. Mr. Yasin was sentenced to five years in exile in one of the cities of Kerman province by the Tehran Revolutionary Court on May 2. The Iran Human Rights Campaign reported on August 31 that between May 30 and August 25 of this year, at least 34 political prisoners in various prisons in Iran were 'deliberately' deprived of access to appropriate medical services. This detailed report, published on Wednesday, August 31, included the names of these 34 prisoners, along with their place of detention, type of illness, age, and how they were deprived of medical services, including access to medication or transfer to medical centers outside of prison. Among them, Afshin Bayamani, Samaneh Nourouz Moradi, Marzieh Farsi, Afif Naeimi, Jaber Sakhraoui, Anwar Chalashi, Wesam Mazraeh, Abdolamir Zargani, and Hamzeh Savari are nine political and ideological prisoners whose cases are detailed in this report.
