Three Suicide Attacks in Aden Leave '26 Dead'

Reports indicate that three suicide attacks on checkpoints in Aden, southeastern Yemen, on Friday, April 6, resulted in at least 26 deaths. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for these attacks. According to Reuters, security sources and residents of Aden reported that dozens were also injured in these attacks. The report adds that in one of the attacks, an ambulance vehicle crashed into a military checkpoint in the Buriqa area in northwestern Aden, killing at least 14 soldiers and civilians. Reuters further states that two other attacks occurred at checkpoints on the way to a Saudi-led coalition base, with security sources reporting 12 fatalities in these two attacks. Nizar Anwar, a spokesperson for the local government in Aden, stated that the targets of these attacks were the coalition forces' command, but local forces at the checkpoints prevented them from reaching their objectives. He added that at least 20 civilians were killed in these attacks. In this context, the 'Amaq' television channel affiliated with the Islamic State group announced that 27 people were killed in these attacks. Yemen has witnessed a civil war in recent years, and since last year, coalition forces led by Saudi Arabia have also entered the war against Houthi militants in the country. The legitimate government of Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, supported by the Saudi-led coalition, currently controls the port of Aden, while the Houthi Shiite militants and forces loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh control Sana'a, the capital of Yemen. According to the Associated Press, the Saudi-led coalition has been conducting airstrikes against Houthi positions since last year. However, over the past year, the coalition's entry into the war in Yemen has not fundamentally changed the balance of power in favor of Hadi's government.
