Three Teenagers Arrested in Germany on Suspicion of 'Islamist Motivated Terrorist Operations'

The police of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, announced the arrest of three teenagers aged 15 and 16, who are suspected of planning terrorist operations motivated by 'Islamism.' The Düsseldorf public prosecutor's office announced on Friday, April 24, that the court had issued arrest warrants for them over the Easter weekend. According to reports, the detainees lived in the cities of Düsseldorf, Markischer, and Soest. According to the newspaper 'Bild,' these youths are said to have praised jihadist militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) and aimed to attack Christians in churches and police officers at police stations with knives and Molotov cocktails. Security sources stated that the police became aware of this 'danger' by tracking a chat group that these three youths had formed on social media. Last December, German police also arrested two teenagers aged 15 and 16 residing in North Rhine-Westphalia and Brandenburg on 'suspicion of terrorism.' They were reported to have sympathized with ISIS and planned to attack a Christmas market. In January of last year, four students in the city of Neuss in North Rhine-Westphalia intended to enforce 'strict Sharia laws' at their school. Gender segregation in swimming classes, the use of Islamic hijab by girls, and early school leaving for Muslim students to attend Friday prayers were part of the plans considered by these students. According to reports, following an attack on a concert hall near Moscow, for which ISIS claimed responsibility, politicians have called for increased vigilance in light of the upcoming European football championship to be held soon in the continent.
