Three Weeks of Mahdi Yarihi's Detention in Evin Quarantine; Mostafa Nili: It's Illegal

Mahdi Yarihi's defense attorney states that despite three weeks of his detention in the quarantine of Evin prison and repeated follow-ups, the protesting singer has not yet been transferred to the general ward. Mostafa Nili, a lawyer, wrote on the 'X' messaging platform on Tuesday, September 19, that 'three weeks have passed' since Mahdi Yarihi's detention in 'Evin prison quarantine, and despite repeated inquiries,' he has still 'not been transferred to the general ward.' According to Nili, 'the specific conditions and limited facilities of the quarantine have led to ongoing physical problems' in the areas of 'skin and ear.' This lawyer also emphasized that 'according to the regulations of the prison organization, continued detention in quarantine is illegal.' On Monday, Yarihi's defense attorney announced that the case of this protesting singer has been sent to Branch 26 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court with charges including 'encouraging people to corruption and inciting individuals to immoral crimes.' Mahdi Yarihi, a well-known pop singer, was arrested on September 27, just before the anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death and after the release of his latest protest work, by the order of the Tehran prosecutor. The American PEN Association condemned Mahdi Yarihi's arrest and the treatment he received from the Islamic Republic officials, describing it as indicative of 'the brutal suppression of freedom of expression by the Iranian regime.'
