Tomaj Salehi's Lawyer: Temporary Detention Order 'Exceeding One Year' is Illegal

Amir Reysian, the lawyer for Tomaj Salehi, stated on Wednesday, February 7, that a 'temporary detention order is still in effect' for his client's first case, which was established in 2022. In a message published on the social media platform X, Mr. Reysian deemed the judiciary's action of issuing a 'temporary detention order exceeding one year' as 'against the law.' Mr. Reysian, who has been representing Tomaj since December 2022, reminded that a total of three cases have been established for his client, for which 'bail has been issued and deposited for two other cases.' Previously, Tomaj Salehi's account on social media X announced on February 5 that the Isfahan judiciary is attempting to 'cover up the torture and beating of this artist by raising baseless charges.' On Tomaj Salehi's page, managed by his close associates, the goal of the 'case-makers' is mentioned as prolonging Tomaj Salehi's imprisonment and 'securing satisfaction from some without any legal and substantiated documents.' According to Mr. Reysian, his client was convicted on six charges out of a total of eight charges in the case related to the November 2022 detention, and was acquitted of two charges of 'collaboration with an enemy government' and 'insulting the leadership.' Amir Reysian mentioned two new charges against Tomaj Salehi as 'aiding in rebellion (armed and group uprising against the regime)' and 'gathering and colluding to commit crimes against security,' adding: 'Firstly, there is no other accused person in the case who could even be considered an accomplice; let alone a group, and secondly, not even a kitchen knife has been discovered from Tomaj; let alone a weapon!!' Tomaj Salehi's account described the new charges against this protesting rapper as 'the result of the delusional scenarios of interrogators' and emphasized that 'none of them have any rational proportion with the activities of a popular artist whose concern has been the voice of the oppressed and working children.' The note continues: 'The continuation of Tomaj Salehi's imprisonment despite receiving bail has no legal justification. Tomaj must be released immediately to continue his treatment process.' Earlier, Yi-Wan Ri, a member of the German Parliament and Tomaj Salehi's political sponsor, expressed concern about the continued imprisonment and case-making against Tomaj Salehi in an interview with Voice of America and called for continued public support for him. Yi-Wan Ri emphasized that the 'Islamic Republic regime' remains fearful of Tomaj Salehi's popularity.
