Concurrently, the U.S. Department of Defense believes that these attacks are supported by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Islamic Republic government, which also poses the risk of further escalation of attacks. In addition to the deployment of F-16 fighters, the United States has also sent the USS Eisenhower aircraft carrier strike group, high-altitude missile launchers, and Patriot missile defense battalions to the region. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned the Islamic Republic and its proxy forces during a United Nations Security Council meeting in New York that if Tehran or its proxies attack American forces anywhere, Washington will 'swiftly and decisively' defend its forces and security. Hamas militants, supported by the Islamic Republic, are recognized as a terrorist group by the U.S., the European Union, and Japan.
