Transfer of Jafar Ebrahimi to Qazal Hessar; New Case Formed for Teacher Union Activist

Jafar Ebrahimi's defense attorney announced that a new case has been opened against this imprisoned teacher union activist, with charges of "disrupting public order and comfort" and "insulting officials and prison officers." Erfan Karamvasi, a human rights lawyer, stated on Sunday, September 3, that the new case was initiated following a complaint from the Tehran Provincial Prison Administration against Ebrahimi, and it has been registered in the third branch of the Evin Prosecutor's Office. Karamvasi confirmed that on Sunday, September 3, his clients Jafar Ebrahimi and Kamiar Fakour, along with several other political prisoners, were transferred from Ward 4 of Evin Prison to Qazal Hessar in Alborz Province by the decision of the "Classification Council of Evin Prison." According to him, these prisoners were told that the reason for their transfer was "attendance at a court session." Karamvasi emphasized that the decision to transfer his clients to Qazal Hessar comes despite the Evin prison authorities having promised to "address Jafar's health condition" and that this should have been done "immediately." Karamvasi also reported a similar case registered for Kamiar Fakour, with charges of "disrupting public order and comfort" and "insulting officials and prison officers" filed by the Tehran Provincial Prison Administration in the third branch of the Evin Prosecutor's Office. The transfer of Kamiar Fakour to Qazal Hessar also occurs while his wife, Sarvnaz Ahmadi, is imprisoned in the women's section of Evin Prison, and according to Karamvasi, "this transfer is illegal." The Coordination Council of Iranian Teacher Unions issued a statement on Sunday in response to the "exile" of Jafar Ebrahimi to Qazal Hessar, deeming this action "inhumane and illegal" and warning about the "critical health condition" of this imprisoned teacher. The council also demanded "immediate and urgent attention to Jafar Ebrahimi's physical condition," warning that "these inhumane actions are a true example of silent killings and will have significant costs for the regime." According to reports received by VOA, several political prisoners in Evin, including those in wards six and eight, have been transferred to Qazal Hessar. Some sources have reported the number of these prisoners as 12.
