Transfer of Roya Zakeri from Psychiatric Hospital to Intelligence Detention Center; Lawyer: Her Life is in Danger

A lawyer states that Roya Zakeri, a girl who was transferred to a psychiatric hospital following a confrontation with compulsory hijab enforcement agents, was moved from the psychiatric hospital to the intelligence detention center in Tabriz without permission to meet with her lawyer and under the orders of the prosecutor. Sina Yousofi, the lawyer, wrote on Sunday, October 22, that "Roya Zakeri is a master's degree holder in computer science" and had passed the employment test in 2021, but was "deprived of employment due to her arrest last fall." Yousofi emphasized that "she was deprived of social rights due to her protest against compulsory hijab. A few days ago, she was transferred to Razi Psychiatric Hospital in Tabriz. No permission was granted to meet with a lawyer. And today, by the prosecutor's order, she was transferred from the hospital to the Tabriz Intelligence Office in Baghshomal." He had previously stressed that "Roya Zakeri's life is in danger," stating that this young woman was taken to the psychiatric hospital while "everyone heard her conscious protest scream." Sina Yousofi insisted: "Let us not allow the government to have a free hand for torture and elimination of her in complete ignorance." Roya Zakeri, who has become known on social media as "the girl from Tabriz," was arrested after clashing with hijab enforcers and chanting "Death to Khamenei" and was taken to Razi Psychiatric Hospital in East Azerbaijan province. The police claim she is "mentally ill." In a video, she speaks in Turkish, stating that she had previously been detained and on a hunger strike but mentions "Khamenei the dishonorable" referring to events from 1400 years ago. An eyewitness reported that two motorcycle officers "harassed her about her hijab" and after the chant "Death to Khamenei," they struck her head with a "stun gun and baton" and "threatened shopkeepers to deny they saw anything." According to the eyewitness, Roya Zakeri "has no mental or physical problems, only a problem with the Islamic Republic system." Reza Koushki Nejad, a former police officer who was dismissed and arrested for supporting public protests, stated that he was also held for "seven days in Ilam psychiatric hospital" after his arrest and was given "injections and pills." Koushki Nejad further added that "here, anyone who understands is considered insane." The claim of Roya Zakeri suffering from "mental illness" comes as Iranian officials previously claimed that Armita Garavand, a 16-year-old student who fell into a coma after being pushed by a metro hijab enforcer, was unconscious due to "low blood pressure." Armita Garavand has been kept in the military hospital "Fajr" for 21 days without visitation rights and away from the media, with the repressive forces of the Islamic Republic preventing her parents from communicating with the media. The newspaper Jumhuri-ye Eslami claimed on Sunday that "according to the follow-ups of the reporter" of this media, Armita Garavand's brain death is "certain."
