Trial of Six Individuals in the UAE for Assisting Yemen's Houthis

The United Arab Emirates has announced that it is trying six individuals for allegedly assisting the Shiite Houthi group in Yemen. According to the UAE's state news agency (WAM), these individuals are accused of providing telecommunications systems to the Houthi-affiliated Ansar Allah group. Additionally, one of them is reported to have provided cash to the Houthis. The report did not specify the nationalities of the accused. This is the first time individuals in the UAE are being tried for aiding the Houthis, a group that has killed dozens of Emirati military personnel on the battlefields in Yemen. The UAE is part of the Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia against the Houthis. The state news agency reported that 'six individuals of Arab nationality, one of whom is Gulf, are accused of sending telecommunications equipment to the Houthis, and their case is being reviewed by the National Security Council.' The UAE's Attorney General also stated that one of the accused had remitted money to the Houthis. Meanwhile, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, stated in a meeting with a delegation of supporters of Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi that 'the UAE's support for the people of Yemen and their national will' will continue. He described King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia's position on Yemen as 'historic' and added that 'Yemen has been a successful test for UAE-Saudi relations within the framework of the Arab coalition,' which 'was proudly passed and in joint activities and sacrifices, we see a glimmer of hope to confront the challenges facing the Arab world.'
