Trump Accepts Republican Nomination; Attacks Clinton and Obama Administration

In his speech during the acceptance of the Republican Party nomination for the upcoming elections, Donald Trump emphasized creating security, fighting terrorism, and promoting Americanism over globalization as his political priorities, stating that he is the "candidate of law and order." He accused Hillary Clinton of ignoring America and its people in nearly all the issues he addressed. Reuters reports that Trump's speech was structured to clearly highlight the criticism of Clinton; a response to Republicans who say that the best way to reunite the Republican Party is to clarify why Clinton should not be elected. The Republican nominee for the November 8 election has widely criticized his Democratic rival, the President of the United States, the media, some current international agreements, countries, and corporations. Trump claims that creating security and fighting terrorism will be at the forefront of his activities. Economically, he will pursue reforms to create jobs and increase income. The American billionaire has attacked major corporations and media, claiming they support Clinton because she will maintain the current system. Trump states that Hillary Clinton is a "puppet" in the hands of big corporations and media. He insists he is determined to help the "forgotten" and "abandoned" and will be their "voice." The New York billionaire claims that corruption in America has reached an unprecedented level. He referenced Hillary Clinton's emails as an example of "unprecedented corruption." Trump asserted that no one knows the ruling system in America better than he does, which is why he can fix it. He has also severely criticized Barack Obama and his administration, stating that the current government has failed in every respect. In part of his criticism of the government, he mentioned Iran, referring to the incident of American sailors being detained in the Persian Gulf, saying we all remember when our sailors were kneeling before Iranian armed forces right after we had just made an agreement. He claims that the nuclear deal with Iran was "one of the worst agreements in history." Trump has also criticized Bill Clinton, the former president and Hillary Clinton's husband. He states that America is the target of "Islamic terrorism". In another part of his speech, he said that instead of "regime change," which he claims Clinton pursued in Iraq, Syria, and Libya, America should cooperate with its allies to fight "ISIS," and this cooperation includes "America's greatest ally in the region, Israel." Trump, referring to his previous criticisms of NATO and the disproportionate costs borne by the U.S., said that "after his remarks," NATO announced it would launch a program to combat terrorism. He also criticized China, calling it the biggest disruptor in the financial system. At the same time, he stated that America's Asian and European allies must pay more for the support they receive. Trump once again attacked U.S. immigration policies, supporting restrictions and emphasizing that immigration from countries with "a history of terrorism" should be completely halted for now. He reiterated his call for building a wall on the U.S. border. He emphasized several times in his speech that America and its citizens will be at the forefront and that "security will return to the streets" starting January 20, 2017 (the inauguration of the new U.S. president). Protests against Trump continued before and during his speech outside the convention venue in Cleveland. At one point in his speech, guards attempted to remove a woman holding a sign from the venue. The Republican presidential nominee also has opponents within the party. However, he has garnered the most votes in the intra-party contests, and a group of former rivals within the party has also supported him. The Republican National Convention in Cleveland effectively ends with Trump's speech. This four-day convention has been accompanied by various events, including a noticeable presence of security forces and police, protesters against Trump, his wife's speech, in which she was accused of plagiarizing Michelle Obama's speech, and ultimately the lack of official endorsement from his most significant intra-party rival, Ted Cruz, who was booed by Trump's supporters during his speech the previous day.
