Trump Appoints Matthew Whitaker as U.S. Ambassador to NATO

Donald Trump, the President-elect of the United States, on Wednesday, November 30, introduced Matthew Whitaker, the former acting Attorney General of the United States, as the U.S. Ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). In his statement, Trump described Whitaker, who hails from Iowa, as a 'strong fighter and loyal patriot' who will ensure the defense of U.S. interests. The President-elect added that 'Matt' will strengthen relations with U.S. allies in NATO and will stand firm against threats to peace and stability. He characterized Matthew Whitaker as a choice that prioritizes 'America First.' Donald Trump expressed complete confidence in 'Matt's' ability to represent the United States with strength, integrity, and unwavering dedication, stating, 'I look forward to working closely with him to continue promoting peace through strength, freedom, and prosperity around the world.' Matthew Whitaker is a lawyer and politician, and has also served as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa, having studied at the university in that state. He is introduced as the U.S. Ambassador to NATO at a time when tensions with Russia have significantly increased due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, signed a decree on Tuesday, November 29, allowing Moscow to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear countries if supported by nuclear powers. This decision came on the thousandth day of Russia's military invasion of Ukraine and after the Biden administration allowed Ukraine to use long-range missiles to target military objectives inside Russia. Trump also introduced his proposed ministers for education and commerce, selected 'Dr. Oz' to head the government health insurance services, and European countries reached an agreement to strengthen defense cooperation. Sean Duffy, a former congressman, is Trump's proposed candidate for the Department of Transportation.
