Trump Charity Foundation to Dissolve Due to Misuse

Following the announcement from the New York State court accusing Donald Trump, the President of the United States, of misusing his charity foundation during the previous two years' elections, the foundation agreed to dissolve under court supervision. The indictment issued by the New York Attorney General against the Donald J. Trump Foundation also seeks a $2.8 million penalty and prohibits three of Mr. Trump's adult children from holding leadership roles in New York state charities. This agreement, which must be approved by a New York state judge, grants Barbara Underwood, the New York Attorney General, the authority to investigate how the remaining assets of the foundation will be allocated to charitable purposes. In her statements on Tuesday, December 18, she referred to the foundation as a 'checkbook' that has 'primarily served Mr. Trump's economic and political interests.' She called the agreement a 'major victory for the rule of law.' Alan Futerfas, one of Donald Trump's lawyers, responded to these remarks by stating that the lawsuit actually delayed the foundation's plan to dissolve itself after the two years' presidential election. He added that the foundation has distributed approximately $19 million among 700 charities over the past decade, with $8.25 million of that being Mr. Trump's personal wealth. Donald Trump has previously claimed that this case was fabricated by New York Democrats. The New York Attorney General has accused Trump and his three adult children, Donald Jr., Eric, and Ivanka, of engaging in 'extensive illegal political use' of the foundation, including allowing Trump's campaign to withdraw $2.8 million from it, money that was raised in 2016 to assist veterans.
