Trump has 'chosen' his Secretary of the Interior

American media and several news agencies report that the President-elect of the United States, Ryan Zinke, a first-term congressman and former commander of the Navy SEALs, will be nominated for the position of Secretary of the Interior. Mr. Zinke is a newcomer Republican representative from Montana. Fox News states that neither Donald Trump's transition team nor Ryan Zinke has responded to the reports yet, but Mr. Zinke has 'accepted' the offer. According to Reuters, if confirmed, he will lead a department with 70,000 employees across the United States, which also oversees 20% of federal lands in the U.S. However, the responsibilities of the 'Department of the Interior' in the U.S. differ significantly from those of similar ministries in other countries. Most ministries focused on domestic affairs in other countries have responsibilities that fall under the 'Department of Homeland Security' in the U.S. The Department of the Interior primarily oversees and manages federal lands and natural resources. Organizations and agencies such as national parks, the Geological Survey, or the Bureau of Land Management operate under the Department of the Interior's supervision. As reported by U.S. media, Ryan Zinke, 55, is a supporter of the protection and maintenance of federal lands under central government management, contrary to the wishes of some other Republican politicians who prefer that control over these lands be transferred to the states or that privatization processes begin. Jason Miller, a spokesman for Mr. Trump, also stated on Monday that Zinke is 'a steadfast supporter of American energy independence and supports the policy of utilizing all energy sources, fossil, renewable, and alternative energies.' Ryan Zinke has been a supporter of Trump since the early days of his campaign. His appointment to this position, like other key cabinet members, must be confirmed by the Senate.
