Trump: Heather Nauert to Succeed Nikki Haley

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced on Friday, December 7, that he will introduce Heather Nauert, the spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, as the new ambassador to the United Nations. Heather Nauert, 48, previously worked at Fox News. She will succeed Nikki Haley, who announced her resignation on May 17, a decision that Donald Trump also agreed to. Nikki Haley transformed from a critic of Trump to one of his close advisors and played a significant role in tightening Washington's policy towards Tehran. She was also a staunch supporter of moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. Haley, of Indian descent and a Republican, was the governor of South Carolina before representing the U.S. at the UN. During the election campaign, she was a critic of Donald Trump and initially supported Senator Marco Rubio's candidacy and then Senator Ted Cruz among other Republican candidates. However, she later aligned with Trump and expressed her desire to join his cabinet and the U.S. National Security Council following his election victory. Bloomberg reported that Haley's resignation surprised senior White House officials, including Vice President Mike Pence. Some interpreted her resignation as a move to run for the next presidential election. However, in a press conference after her resignation, Haley dismissed these speculations, stating that she would support Donald Trump in the upcoming two years. In this context, Trump stated he is considering five final candidates to replace Nikki Haley.
